The theme for the 2008 Long Course Swimming Championship will be Celebration! Of what? Well, think Red (in Beijing -- hint, hint -- red is the color for happiness, joy and success), White (purity and brightness) and Blue (vigor and vitality). And what about
?
That's the Chinese spelling of Young Men's Christian Association or
just YMCA for short.

8/4/08 - We are always striving to improve this meet. We hope that everyone takes our meet survey to let us know what we did right -- and wrong. You can find the survey at http://www.zoomerang.com/Survey/survey-intro.zgi?p=WEB2284QUXM7F3.
8/1/08 - It's the end of the meet and the team trophies are being awarded. For the Women, Cheshire YMCA came in third with 282.5 points, Middle Tyger took second with 452.5 points and the record breaking women of the West Shore YMCA took the 1st place trophy with 466 points.
On the Men's side, Middle Tyger YMCA left no doubt who was going to win. Their 440.5 points beat third place Cheshire YMCA (321 points) and second place Countryside Ralph Stolle YMCA (327 points).
Finally, the combined team trophies were awarded. Cheshire YMCA was called to the award stands with their third place 603.5 points. West Shore YMCA took the combined second place with 691 points and Middle Tyger YMCA won the championship with 893 points.
Congratulations to everyone, the week was so exciting!
8/1/08 - Last day, two sets of relays, two records! West Shore YMCA's Women's Relay Teams finished with an incredible feat of setting new records in every relay of the meet. In the 200 Freestyle Relay, Lauren Schmittle, Alison Zelenky, Stephanie Kinsey and Leah Gingrich swam a time of 1:48.36 taking .55 off of the old record.
Near the end of the evening, Claire Loht joined Stephanie, Alison and Leah in the 400 Medley Relay for a record of 4:22.96 outswimming the old 4:24.11.
7/31/08 - On Thursday, the fast swims just kept coming. The 100 freestyle had new record holders in both the Women's and the Men's events. Emily Lloyd of the Anne Arundel YMCA broke the old record of 57.51 with a new time of 57.07. In the next event, Even Reed, Upper Mainline YMCA swam 51.25 taking.27 off of the old record.
Then came the 800 Freestyle relay. The old record for the Women was 8:35.84. The Middle Tyger YMCA women beat that by .01. But the crowd was still cheering for West Shore YMCA's team of Leah Gingrich, Lauren Schmittle, Emily Weaner and Claire Loht who had touched at 8:29.28. Yes, that's beating the old record by 6.56 seconds!
The Middle Tyger YMCA Men finished the night with a new record of 7:52.27. Gregory Morgan, David Ingraham, Christopher Reinke and David Groseclose sent everyone home with a huge smile.
7/31/08 - Thursday's events were dedicated in Memory of Ian Kanegawa from the Boyertown YMCA. At the evening devotions, his team read a poem, "Glass Tears" that is posted on the Devotions page.
7/30/08 - Day 2 of the meet must of made everyone hoarse. The swims were fantastic. And the best was saved for last. BOTH of the 400m Freestyle Relays broke records.
Our new champions, West Shore YMCA's Lauren Schmittle, Claire Loht, Stephanie Kinsey, and Leah Gingrich cruised to a new record of 3:55.59, well under the old record of 3:58.73.
The Middle Tyger YMCA team of Reagan Carne, Haley Lips, Annie Gillig and Molly Willingham took second with a record breaking time of 3:57.30
Middle Tyger's Men's 400 Freestyle Relay decided that their team WAS going to walk out as record holders so Gregory Morgan, David Groseclose, Graham Kauffman and Christopher Reinke combined to swim 3:33.66 breaking the old record of 3:34.54.
7/29/08 - What a start! Four records broken in the first evening. The 200 IM had both the Women's and Men's records broken. Leah Gingrich from the West Shore PA Y clobbered the old record of 2:18.89 with a time of 2:16.33. Fanwood Scotch Plains' Scott Marino also took off over 2 seconds from the old record of 2:07.29 with a 2:05.19 swim.
The next event saw 2 women beat the old record of 26.49. In the Women's 50m Freestyle, Leah Gingrich swam 26.36. But she was beaten by Emily Lloyd from Anne Arundel (MD), our new record holder, who touched the wall at 26.25.
After records in 3 events in a row, fast swimming continued, but the records lasted until Event 13, the Women's 100m Butterfly. Haley Lips from the Middle Tyger (SC) YMCA beat the old record of 1:02.37 with a swim of 1:01.19. But Leah Gingrich, in her third swim of the evening, SMASHED the record with a time of 1:00.49.
Finally, in the Women's 200m Medley Relay, the team from the Cheshire YMCA, Lauren Solernou, Kimberly Jerome, Hollis Capano and Michaela Morr broke the 2 minute mark for the first time in YMCA Long Course history with a time of 1:59.83, well under the 2:01.17 record.
7/30/08 - The Tuesday results are now correct with the consols and finals for Event 9, Women's 50 Freestyle,
